About Carol

South African artist working in the naive style.

After art training at the Johannesburg School of Art in the late 1960’s Carol started her working life as a textile designer. She went on to support herself through the design and embroidering of clothes and patchwork.

Her background in textiles inspired her to create cloth collages which were framed under glass. She developed this style throughout the 1970's and in 1979 held a one man show at Gallery International in Cape Town.

In the 1980's and 1990's she started painting with acrylics on board, varnished to give an enameled appearance. She also paints on glass in the reverse.

The work portrays everyday life influenced by the countryside of the Overberg and the city of Cape Town.

The style of painting was influenced by her cloth collages.

For the past 18 years Carol has held annual exhibitions at The Penny Dobbie Gallery in Cape Town. The work has been exhibited in The Irma Stern Museum, the Josephine Mill and the Table Mountain Exhibition “Hoerikwaggo” at the

South African National Gallery. Work has appeared in local and international publications.

Each painting features frames hand painted by the artist.
